Editor’s Note: The great legacy of the Beatles is in two pillars: 1. They explored a variety of musical approaches much wider than anyone before or since and 2. I can find some new meaning in many of their songs even today. “She’s Leaving Home” came up on a Beatles station I was listening to and I was stunned to realize they are talking to every parent – then and now – who thinks the child’s life is actually about the parent. Amazing.

Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly?
How could she do this to me?
