The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Written by Grace Frank Baum &
Illustrated by W.W. Denslow [more]
Preface: I looked into this book, just for fun, after seeing "Wicked" on stage recently. Over 100 years old, the lessons are told in charming fashion if a little more starkly than I recall. Baum asks that we repel the grayness of our lives but mainly he assures us that brains and courage and empathy are relative. I also sensed (resensed) a theme about our collective strength in the team of Dorothy and company.
A favorite quote:
"The sun and the wind had changed Aunt Em... taken the sparkle from her eyes and left them a sober gray."
