Tim McCarthy and the Business of Good

Book of the Month: “Thank You For Being Late”, Thomas Friedman

Comment:  Like so many books I share, this was recommended to me by a reader in response to a blog post about time.  Friedman has a string of best sellers including “The World Is Flat” and has become known as (what he calls) an “explanatory journalist; a translator from English to English”.  Here he takes complex issues such as technology and climate change and does two things that were helpful to me:

1. Explain them in a way that first shocked me, then gave me perspective of how to deal with them

2. Make suggestions, he calls on “Mother Nature” specifically to make 18 of them, as to what we might do as a society to improve things.  If you’re as ambiguous about the speed of change as I am, this is a rich read.

Favorite excerpt:  “Guessing is so twentieth century.  Guessing is over.  So may be privacy”.
